Re-purposing Hair Tools

Recently, I came across a shampoo brush that I used years ago. I discontinued its use due to the negative effects it had on my hair and scalp. But I've found a new way of using the tool....to clean my hair brushes. What I do is rake the shampoo brush over my hair brushes to remove matted hair. Then I wash the brushes by using a little shampoo and water while continuing to rake the shampoo brush over them. This helps to remove dirt and oils. Great way of re-purposing a tool.

Human Hair Wigs and Weave Care

During my transitioning, I've worn a lot of weaves and wigs. Most have been human hair. When they get dirty I would use gentle shampoos and conditioners until one day I had an aha moment. If shampoo removes the oil build up from our natural hair, why do I need to use it on my weave or wig. Sure it comes in contact with my hair, but does it really absorb a lot of the oil? So I did a test.

When it was time to wash my human wigs, I used a co-wash (conditioner wash) method. The result was hair that was clean, detangled and stayed that way until it was time to wash again. I've used this technique for a couple of months now and it's helped my wigs to last longer. This is now my only way of cleaning human wigs and weaves. My next adventure will be to co-wash my synthetic wigs using fabric softener.
